The Japanese Magazine Gemaga had a sit down with the team developing FFXIII and a few details emerged regarding the game. Apparently the planner of the combat will be the same person who worked on Final Fantasy X and created the Front Mission series: Toshiro Tsuchida. Also the bloke in the link below known as Mister 33 cm (corresponding to the size of his feet who is still a mysterious unknown character) will apparently be wild yet heroic and his fighting style will be humorous. According to IGN, Square Enix are planning to replace their White Engine for Epic's Unreal Engine 3 for future next gen titles after Final Fantasy XIII.
Square noted the new platform would be used "throughout the company, utilizing proprietary technologies as well as third-party solutions such as Unreal Engine 3."
