Tecmo Pass On Square Enix; Wants KOEI Merger Instead

September 4th is upon us and the deadline for Tecmo accepting the proposal has passed. Tecmo have released a statement which outlines why they decided to reject the offer in favour of merging with KOEI instead:

"Through a merger, we expect we can grow further by respecting both companies' identities and having an environment in which employees can fully exhibit their skills," Tecmo and Koei said in a statement"

It seems with KOEI, instead of Square Enix, Tecmo would increase their corporate value.

A Square Enix spokesperson said:

"The company would decide on its next step after seeking the rationale for Tecmo's rejection, details of the Tecmo-Koei merger plan, and reasons why it is considered better than Square Enix's proposal"

Square Enix seemed to offer brand recognition in the West, but Tecmo feels they have this already with the Ninja Gaiden and Dead or Alive franchises, and so focus on KOEI- which would be a better compliment to them and would make KOEI and Tecmo more competitive in the global market.

yeah tecmo made dead or alive and ninja gaiden, and koei is known of dynasty warriors and romance of the three kingdoms.
both companies are two pony shows that make the same game over and over again. they both suck too.

Good for us! That news saddened me a bit but since they declined, well GOOD! Its not the end of the world. Besides I've lost interest with KOEI with DW, nothing really changes besides the terrain, much. Same craptactular voice acting. "Oh No Its Lu Bu!", "I have defeated an enemy officer!" besides as kick ass as Feudal Chinese History was I still find it impossible that a person can fell 1000 troops in 5 minutes (simple exception being its a game XD). As far as Tecmo goes they've only recently regained ground and acclaim (since) they have made DOA (For all the hardcore Booblovers out there and I can't knock that, they took Boobage from last gen to next gen so Ill give them props for that) and Ninja Gaiden got its franchise back since the Xbox remakes. If memory serves didn't Tecmo have some downtime before all that? I know before DOA and NG they didn't create games for a cool minute and Im talking from N64/PS1 era to Middle PS2/Xbox. Im talking at least 7 years. I saw a documentary on why but I forgot the reason why the company floundered for a bit. Anyway, I think its probably a better stand for Square-Enix. Lets see if they ever try to take Atlus...god forbid XD
