Square Enix Win Lawsuit in Korea

Another winning case for Square Enix in their battle to stop others from using their copyrights and intellectual property.

A Korean court has ruled in their favour against the Korean talent agency Fantom Entertainment group. Fantom was alleged to have used certain portions of the film Advent Children and adapted them into live action shots for the music video called "Yuhok ui Sonata (Temptation Sonata)" by the singer Ivy.

Im sure anyone who has seen the video has seen the uncanny resemblance and the Korean courts have acknowledged this fact.

Yasuhiko Hasegawa, Square Enix's General Counsel has this to say:

"The amount of damages awarded to us in this case is the largest the courts in Korea have ever awarded in cases infringing on a single work of art and we also appreciate that the severity of the damage caused to the company by this infringement has been acknowledged"

Looked it up on YouTube, for curiosities sake. The song sucks complete ass, but it was a pretty good recreation (even if the Tifa-look-alike didn't slam her head into the pew when the Loz-look-alike spins her through the air, like in Advent Children). I did like the new ending they gave the fight. Woulda been a shitty ending to a music video, if they left it with the singer being knocked out and a small girl being kidnapped. All in all, it was a good look at what Advent Children might have looked like, if they had chosen to go live action, instead of CGI.

But, they deserved to get their asses sued for being dumb enough to steal material practically scene for scene from a company that makes a world-renowned game series. Especially from a popular movie spin-off of one of said series most popular games. Freaking dumb asses.

Riiiight. What damage!? Not saying the morons didn't deserve to be sued. It was a stupid move, but damages caused to square enix? Just...no.
