Rumour: Square Enix To Cancel Final Fantasy Agito XIII?

At the Square Enix company shareholders meeting, it was revealed that due to internal losses on development, a drastic course of action has been taken. It seems that titles in development have been reconsidered and a mobile title has been cancelled- leading many to speculate that Final Fantasy Agito XIII has been the title to be stopped. This is just a rumour at the moment but with Square Enix actually losing money, plus also a drop in Western market shares too, it has led to the videogame giants to contemplate not only their own position and stance, but also games in development. In other news Yoichi Wada, who was at the shareholder meeting, really wants to release Draqon Quest IX this year- probably as it is likely to make a huge profit and sell many copies, which will somewhat soften the blow they have received from their financial report. At least they got rid of the least important title. *laughs* Not caring much for XIII to be honest. I'd be just as happy if they canned the lot; after the maturity of XII, I don't care for another teenage angst fest. |

dare you to go play Tales of Legendia. You can't truly understand how annoying angsty characters are until you've played that game. It'll drive you insaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaane. I'm going to have to agree, though. I'm not looking forward to FFXIII, either. So far, almost every character that's been shown to us has a distinct similarity to past characters. It's just ridiculous. ditch nomura and teh newfags that keep making their characters look leik past characters, kthx. Though, for the record, I really liked the Prince's outfit and Lightning's outfit. Lightning's face value just completely ruins the outfit though. It's Cloud overdosing on estrogen pills ffs. :monster: Cloud in drag: I feel so pretty, and witty, and gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay! As for Agito, I'm not really interested in it, either. Cell phone games released by SE are seldom played in america without having to bend your back to hellfire and back. Plus it's a cell phone game. It's bound to blow ass. |

Mecha, I love the Final Fantasy series. - I think FFV has a brilliant combat system despite its horribly weak plotline, one that I always get immense enjoyment out of. - I think Final Fantasy VI is a masterpiece of gaming design, music, art and character, and a true testament to Amano's talents. - I think IX has a level of charm and personality in its world and characters that hasn't been surpassed in the series before or since. - I think FFXII is an example of a more grown-up, mature Final Fantasy, one which possesses of the most beautifully scripted storylines I've ever seen. THAT is why I'm here. It doesn't mean I have to blindly love every single game in the series, or ignore it's flaws, or dislike the rehashing archaic plot devices, or Noruma's crap, derivative and unoriginal character design. |

Good God, I could care less about that cellphone game. If they ever decide to resume its development after releeasing both Final Fantasy XIII and Final Fantasy Versus XIII, they should bring it to DS or PSP...Anywhere BUT on mobile...@_@ I'm not surprised people at S-E are actually losing money. The release of Dragon Quest IX is being delayed constantly, and three Final Fantasy games are being developped at the same time (FFXIII, vsXIII, Agito XIII). If they not not release one of these games before the end of the fiscal year, they're in deep trouble! Dragon Quest IX has changed drastically throughout tits development. It was originally supposed to take a FFXII route, that is no more random battle and first-person perspective combats. Fan reaction in Japan was terrible, and eventually they restarted DQIX from scratch using the good old traditional battle system. The game is rumored to be the longest in the series so far, even moreso than Dragon Quest VII, which was long as HELL. Moreover, the game will include an online mode, different of the original storyline. It's no wonder the game is taking so long to produce, despite the DS being a producers-friendly handheld. Still, they really ought to release it by the end of 2008 if they plan on making profits for this fiscal year. I don't see them releasing both Dragon Quest IX and Final Fantasy XIII in the same year, as they might end up competing with each other, exactly what S-E does NOT want... I can understand why S-E remade Dragon Quest IV, V and VI for the DS. They knew very well that Dragon Quest IX would not be finished for a while...And in Japan, anything about Dragon Quest is a million seller for sure. So it's a few easy bucks for the company, and a smart move, I should say. |

Wow. And here I thought I was the only one who didn't care much for XIII coming out. Besides, I've still got 3-6 to play.

Well go play them, Goddamnit! You're missing some of the best games in the entire series.

I think news like this and their poor financial results will push a FFVII remake ever closer. They are sitting on a gold mine with that one. But thats the only card they are sitting on- maybe Kingdom Hearts III and maybe the Final Fantasy XIII games (sans mobile one) Then again, im hoping that itll make them re evaluate their policy of remakes, spinoffs and sequels for about ever game they own too... |

if you love the FF franchise so much, how could you say such a horrible thing? i mean you should go into the new big FF installment with optimism, and even more so since its the first on a new console. you contradict your self, and also i dont think most ppl think Numara has unoriginal character designs, tho i do think hes overrated in many ways... |

I agree with you, I should go into it with optimism. But when I see them repeating the same old thing with the same rehashed designs and approached except in high-definition, I find it hard to be optimistic. Who knows, I could be proven completely wrong and it could turn out to be one of the best titles in the series, ever. We'll have to wait and see, I suppose. |

I'm quite looking forward to FF13, and I'm glad they would only be cancelling the mobile game. As long as it's not FF13 or Versus, I'm cool. |

what of all the stuff weve seen of XIII makes you think there rehashing the same thing over again? first off it stars a female lead, which to date only one other FF has done which was VI (and maybe x-2). then not only that, she has a tough personality, then its in an advance world with crystals which is new as well. also the gameplay looks great too, i really dont think you can say that there just rehashing the same thing over from the things weve seen thus far. as to me the things weve been shown so far look like the title is going in the right direction... |
