Final Fantasy XIII Controls Detailed

At the Square Enix event, where the release date for Final Fantasy XIII in Japan was confirmed, the control system was also detailed.

Lucky gamers had the chance to play the Tokyo Game Show build of the game and at each demo station, the controls were posted for help.

According to Zergwatch, the controls were as follows:

• Directional Pad. In the Field: Not used. In Battle: Toggle through targets, commands

• Left Stick. In the Field: Move character. In Battle: Not used

L1 Button. In Field: Field items. In Battle: Paradigm Shift (”Optima Change”)

• Select Button. In Field: Navigational Map. In Battle: Not used

• Start Button. In Field: Pause Menu. In Battle: Pause

• Circle Button. In Field: To select things, make decisions, etc. In Battle: Input commands, select targets.

• Square Button. In Field: Open Area Map. In Battle: Driving Mode (Type of attack used when Summons are in Gestalt Mode)

• X Button. In Field: Cancel. In Battle: Cancel

Triangle Button. In Field: Open Menu. In Battle: Input commands

• Right Stick/R3 Button. In Field: Camera

This is for the Japanese build of the game, there may be some changes for the Western release.

Paradigm Shift system, which lets the player assign class roles to each character, putting them in offensive, defensive and healing roles with names like Commando, Medic, Sentinel, and Peacemaker. It appeared that Final Fantasy XIII will let players combine the Paradigm Shift option and the Active Time Battle command queuing, letting them cruise through battles.

Haha yeah.

After the Japanese release of the game, im sure things will be explained a lot better in reference to controls etc.
