Dirge of Cerberus Revamped for North America

Yes, it's true. Square-Enix is apparently making some rather drastic modifications to Dirge of Cerberus, the thrrd spinoff title in their Compilation of FF7, which is due to be released in North America in August. Among the changes... no online mode (it's being replaced with "Extra Hard" mode that contains 40 extra missions that are unlocked as you play), no "Easy" mode (only Normal, Hard, and the new Extra Hard which is unlocked by completing either of the other modes), and new moves, items, and weapons. Additionally, Vincent's speed has been increased, and the game's aiming mode has been improved. And for those who were worried about edits... yes, Gackt will still be making an appearance in the North American release. Source: Gamespot.com Add to Digg |

I'm glad that we're getting a bonus 40 missions, many derived from the multiplayer online mode, as opposed to an actual online mode. I don't play online games, but I still wanted to experience the side missions. Now I can! I wonder if they'll dub over Gackt's voice for his speaking line, or if they'll subtitle it. |

I've heard so little of this game outside of rumors. I hope it's as interesting as the hype says it is.

I'm glad to hear they've improved the controls, as apparently there was a lot of room for improvement in the Japanese version. I didn't plan to play it online anyway, so I'm pretty glad they've got rid of that and put some extra missions on instead. (: |

Is it just me, but is Playstation games that are online a bit overrated. X-Box Live is so much better, I think. I could end up eating my words come the release of the PS3. |

The issue of PS online games being the suck is because of both the game developers and the gaming community. Xbox live is where Microsoft has the servers and hosts the game, a centralised system of games. Playstation doesn't have this system, which basically means that each game manufacturer has to take care of their own servers etc. The game manufacturers know more about and are professionalised in creating games, not hosting online games. Even though they could outsource that business if they don't really want it. The online gaming community isn't as strong either in the PS games, but that's probably because of the lack of strong online titles for the PS2. Except Socom (that was PS2, right?) perhaps, but that's a born online game. |

Gackt is fluent in English, but he still sounds really broken when he tries to speak it. Though, he may have improved since I last heard him, and he can say 'fuck' very well.

I kind of wish they were going to keep the online play. Not like I would have used it myself, but just for people who would have wanted it. Other than that, it sounds like all good changes. Still not sure if I'm going to get this game though. |

I've seen that video. I don't think he has too much dialouge so he should be able to voice himself.

He only has one line. If he can get an English voice coach with him to help him refine it, that would be cool. Mind you, it'd be dubbed. |

As long as it's not that drastic and doesn't effect story line or anything than it's all good. Online mode I could care less because I never play online... only because I can't, ha. ANd I'm glad Gackt will still be in the game! |

I'm really looking forward to getting to have a hands on go at this game. It's good that they have taken the lack of online support into account too and offered something substantial in its place. Although online play would have been great I don't think there would have been enough support. Good to hear its faster paced too, there were a lot of gripes about that. |
