Strong in both mind and body, Tifa is a childhood friend of Cloud. Though they grew up together, they were not close, as Cloud was not readily accepted by her group of friends. In reality, Cloud wanted very much to become more than just friends, but Tifa never paid him much attention. When Cloud left Nibelheim to join Shinra's military branch, Soldier, Tifa asked him to make her a promise. She asked that if she were ever in trouble that he would come for her.
Years later, Tifa also left Nibelheim, and settled in the city of Midgar, where she opened the Seventh Heaven Bar in the Sector 7 Slums. It was here that she met Barret Wallace, and became a member of Avalanche, a rebel group fighting to save the planet from the Shinra Company's planet-killing energy extraction. The last person she expected to meet again was Cloud, but meet him she did, when he hired on as a paid mercenary to help the rebels.
Something, however, was very wrong. Things Cloud should remember, he didn't. And things that he should have had no knowledge of, he could describe in detail. Yet still, he was Cloud, and until she could figure out what was going on, she was inclined to treat him as a friend. When Sephiroth, a man both she and Cloud were all too familiar with, reappeared and began to put in motion a plan that would bring about the destruction of humanity, Tifa committed herself to a new fight to save the planet.
