One year after Advent Children and the Geostigma Crisis, life has begun to return to normal. But with the reopening of a secret underground Shinra complex in the ruins of Midgar, things are about to take a turn for the worst.
"Dirge of Cerberus" offers mysterious disappearances of entire towns... Strange, powerful soldiers disrupting society... and a target painted on the back of one Vincent Valentine. Rising from the ashes of the once great metropolis comes Deepground, ShinRa's deep, dark secret. Who are these soldiers? Why are they looking for Vincent? Three years ago, Midgar died... but deep in its bowels, something survived. Drawn in to the fight by an old ally, Vincent must once again help his friends save the planet.
Dirge of Cerberus is the third title in the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII. A first for Square Enix, the game is a third-person shooter (termed a "Gun-Action RPG" by Square Enix) based in the world of Final Fantasy 7, and starring the mysterious and loved-by-fans optional character from the original game, Vincent Valentine.
Released in 2006, Final Fantasy 7: Dirge of Cerberus features an online mode in the Japanese version of the game that was removed from the overseas version. In fact, the game received a massive overhaul for its North American release due to complaints from Japanese gamers. Among the changes were the removal of "Easy" mode. Cerberus was replaced with an "Extra Hard" mode for the U.S., where shooters are more widely played than they are in Japan. The online feature was replaced by "Extra Missions" mode, a set of unlockable side missions. Alterations to Vincent's speed and movements were also made, including the addition of a double-jump ability.
