About Fabula Nova Crystallis
Fabula Nova Crystallis: Final Fantasy 13 is the name given to Square-Enix's upcoming multiple-platform addition to the Final Fantasy series. Encompassing three announced titles, and possibly still more as-yet-unannounced titles, Fabula Nova Crystallis is currently in development for the PlayStation 3, and mobile phones.
Latin for "the New Tale of the Crystal", the games of Fabula Nova Crystallis take place in completely different worlds, have entirely different characters, and even have altogether different cultures. The tie that binds the titles together is a common creation myth woven into each game's history, which revolves around the mysterious Crystals. In the
Final Fantasy 13 game, these Crystals, in addition to being related to the creation mythology of the worlds, are also the source of magic.
About the Games
The three titles announced for Fabula Nova Crystallis include
Final Fantasy XIII, the core game of the compilation slated for release on the PlayStation 3 possibly as early as 2007,
Final Fantasy Versus 13, also for the PlayStation 3, and
Final Fantasy Agito XIII, for mobile phones. Additionally, Square Enix has trademarked the name
Haeresis, which is Latin for 'heresy'. As some sources are speculating that the Fabula Nova Crystallis project will include as many as six games altogether, it is possible that this may be one of the unnannouced titles.
